let’s let the earth take a breath

with this hurricane in the states and a typhoon coming to Thailand, the idea of different beings reacting to weather patterns has been on my mind. it intrigues me that the concept of Mother Nature sending extreme weather tends to upset the majority of the human race. yes, we should take measures to protect ourselves from dangerous weather, just like any animal of the earth would, but we have no place being angry about it. we are guests of the Earth, expected to live as one with it. Mother Nature has a complex and beautiful system that she runs in order to maintain only her natural beauty. she sends rain and wind and snow and sleet for a reason. her systems revolve around the enhancement of the art that is the natural world, and she does not have the incentive to protect what we have unnaturally built on top of her.

you see, Mother Nature would not intentionally destroy herself.

if Mother Nature wants to send a storm that will destroy a major highway, she will because she is trying to break out of the asphalt suffocation that she is suffering from, not because she is trying to harm the human beings that are driving at that time. in fact, she has the utmost love in her heart for human beings, for they are creatures that she has created. but she does not have love for the hazardous materials and heavy infrastructure and unnatural resources that they have imposed on her. so, she sends extreme weather to attempt to restore her own beauty, not to punish the human race.

if a hurricane was to hit a place that was not yet inhabited by human beings, the ecosystem is sure to benefit more than be destroyed; but put human beings into the equation and suddenly the earth is at fault for ruining all the hard work that we have done to build a city.

isn’t it interesting that after a storm we spend millions of dollars and use hundreds of resources to restore our society, yet an entire ecosystem can naturally and completely regrow over time with nothing but the help of Mother Nature?

so, while all of these thoughts are running laps through my head, I have been actively paying attention to how the people of Thailand have been reacting to the rain storm. as expected, many people are upset about the fact that it is about to pour for a period of time…

…but I also have seen the people with like-minds to what ive talked about in this post.  I respect and have so much love for the people who rejoice in the rain because they believe it is good for the earth. they believe it will cool the humidity that has been caused by the impacts of human vehicles on the road. there are people who recognize that sending so much water is mother nature’s way of trying to heal the burns that exhaust puts on her atmosphere.

I find peace in the people who respect that we are intruding on the natural ecosystems by building and driving and using plastic and polluting, and that sometimes she needs to send extreme weather in order to breathe.

I commend the humans that live in the lines that Mother Nature carves out. I commend the rain rejoicers and the surfers of the hurricane swell. we must put love and trust in Mother Nature instead of anger. there is a difference between seeking protection in a time of dangerous weather and feeling resentment for the earth for sending it.

we are here in order to be a part of the cosmic system that is the natural world, and if the natural ecosystems are able to recreate themselves and thrive off of extreme storms than why can’t we?

  1. Ari, your thoughts are as pure and refreshing as the water deposited by a typhoon or hurricane. A whole new way of looking at the world you love so much. How wonderful that you have this time to ponder the beauty of our world and what part you may be preparing to play in its preservation. I’ll be right here, watching in awe!
    Sending love,
